Lawson and Wetzel with Chicago Mayor Rham Emanuel at the Chicago Athletic Asscociation ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In 2015 noted Chicago independent retailers Lance Lawson and Jim Wetzel opened their latest project Madison Hall – the major retail component within Commune Hotels & Resorts’ highly anticipated Chicago Athletic Association hotel – a project designed by the renowned team from Roman + Williams.
Occupying two storefronts along the hotel's Madison Street entrance, Madison Hall consists of two shops conceived with a nod to the building’s celebrated heritage. The shopping environment takes visitors back in time; with modern lifestyle products featured within a pair of restored jewel box spaces - with interiors by Lawson and Wetzel.
The East space features unique hotel sundries, unisex apothecary items, books, magazines, and men's accessories in an environment that hearkens back to the old-school drugstores of the 1930s. It also features a barber chair where a rotating assortment of the country's top stylists will offer custom haircuts begining later this year. The space also houses a shop-in-shop with Aesop -the reknowned Australian skincare line.
Within the the West space, in what was once the Ladies’ Lounge within the all-male club, shoppers are immerced in the atmosphere of a prewar women's boutique, replete with fresh flowers, natural cosmetics, a fragrance counter, and a highly curated assortment of women's lifestyle accessories. Christine Noelle Design has a fresh floral shop-in-shop inside the space - which also features a heavy assortment of products from the four century old florentine apothecary line Santa Maria Novella.
As with their other Michigan Avenue lifestyle store, space519, Lawson and Wetzel scour the globe to find the latest cutting-edge products for Chicago Athletic Association’s guests and the hotel’s neighboring Millennium Park community.
